About Me

I’m Jack Yu, a student studying physics at Caltech with a growing interest in quantum computing and photonics. I've had 2 summers of experience working in a photonics R&D lab at Sandia National Labs under Dr. Darwin Serkland and Dr. Alejandro Griñe.

I have experience with:

  • The testing and characterization of VCSELs and edge-emitting lasers
  • Modeling and making custom optomechanical parts using manual lathe, mill, CNC machining, and 3D printing
  • Setting up an ECDL (External Cavity Diode Laser) to test effectiveness of AR coatings
  • KiCad, SolidWorks, Spyder, LaTeX

I’m also part of Caltech’s NCAA swim team. In my free time, I satisfy my creative itch through printmaking and photography. I also love reading science fiction and philosophy books.
